Chance look over the sea wall at lunchtime and I noticed a large number of Shags in Porthcressa Bay. I counted 124, but of course they were diving and surfacing as swept my binos over the area.
Also crashing through the field of vision was the occasional Sandwich Tern, hitting the sea with great effort but not getting but a few cms below the surface.
The whole event had a grand finale of a tern with a 10 cm long fishing being chased by herring gull right over my head.
To think I had just wandered out into the garden while I was waiting for the others to set off to Juliet's Garden for lunch!
